Wake Losses are a Significant and Urgent Industry Challenge
The viability of onshore and offshore wind are being significantly impacted by wind turbine wakes. Wakes reduce plant output anywhere between 5 and 15% onshore, and considerably higher (upwards of 20-30%) offshore due to more stable atmospheric conditions. While pre-construction estimates provide insight into the wake losses you may experience, retrospective analysis using operational data indicates these estimates frequently underestimate the wake losses.
For a 1 GW fleet, annual revenue is reduced by €2.3M for every 1% of wake losses.

The Solution
WindESCo Swarm is the industry's preeminent end-to-end, autonomous collective control technology using wake steering for wind plant optimization. By allowing turbines to communicate with and learn from each other, we help owners and operators unlock their asset value. The Swarm system can be implemented as part of new wind plants or as a retrofit or re-power solution.
Working cooperatively, Swarm increases plant output anywhere from 1-3%
Swarm uses proprietary wake steering and online static yaw misalignment correction to optimize AEP
Available for new sites, existing sites, and licensable to IPPs and OEMs
The Swarm Advantage
No other end-to-end collective control wake steering solution in the industry uses as sophisticated of a field-informed approach to ensure delivery of 1-3% AEP gains.
1-3% improvement in AEP
Semi-Closed Loop Model-Based Control

Real-Time Monitoring
The System
The Swarm System is not a static solution, rather the Swarm System will improve over time based on data from real-time monitoring and offline analytics to ensure optimal AEP performance.
Swarm Edge
The OEM agnostic Swarm Edge device enables absolute nacelle position control for collective control without requiring any modifications to the wind turbine controller hardware, software, or other control parameters.
Swarm Server
The Swarm Server sits within the wind plant firewall, collecting real-time data from the plant SCADA and Swarm Edge devices to achieve collective control of the wind farm.
Swarm Software
The Swarm Optimization Software runs on-premise and defines in real-time the optimal yaw control settings to mitigate the wake effect and any static yaw misalignment.
Swarm Cloud Secure Network
The Swarm Cloud Secure Network is an offline model optimization layer performing detailed analytics to ensure Swarm effectiveness at the wind plant.
Getting Started: Swarm Assessment
WindESCo has developed proprietary analytics and site-modeling tools to examine the AEP benefit of Swarm enabled plant-level collective control. The Swarm Assessment uses internal wind, wake, and control modeling tools to estimate the potential increase in plant output from the Swarm Applications for collective control including proprietary wake steering and online static yaw misalignment correction.
