Uncovering Wind Turbine Performance & Reliability Anomalies using High Speed SCADA

WindESCo now runs 64 individual checks on our Customer’s SCADA to uncover turbine performance anomalies across the entire wind turbine system, including 10+ yaw and pitch checks, 30+ power and rotor speed checks, 5+ OEM specific checks, and more. The 64 checks run 24x7x365 and tie financial outcomes (i.e., AEP and financial impact) to any issue identified to facilitate issue prioritization for the Asset or Site Manager, along with evidence and data supporting the true nature of the issue and its financial impact.
Find, Fix, Measure or FFM is WindESCo’s commercial solution for returning turbines to their original design operation, recovering approximately 1-2% in site AEP through turbine-level optimization. The 64 checks included in FFM are founded on engineering first principles, and combine AI with domain expertise to perform analytics at scale while minimizing false positive rates. In addition to the 64 checks, specific actions and recommendations are provided to correct each turbine issue identified, and after the performance anomaly is corrected, embedded energy loss models are used to measure and continuously track the resulting improvements in AEP and revenue. Custom checks can also be developed and integrated into the FFM platform for those Customers who wish to rapidly scale their internal knowledge across their wind fleet.
WindESCo has historically focused its checks on identifying issues that negatively impact AEP performance, but has since expanded its development to include reliability checks in the generator and gearbox. New reliability and performance checks are regularly developed on a monthly basis as more insights are derived from new and existing turbine model vintages.
In addition, WindESCo is offering its Swarm simulation models to its FFM Customers both onshore and offshore to assess the wake impact on their sites along with the AEP improvement opportunity achievable through Swarm-enabled wake mitigation. You can read more about Swarm here.
